St John Sacred Heart

The students in the fifth grade at St. John- Sacred Heart will use text and the trade book program to further their reading knowledge. They will do book reports, projects with a variety of literature genre. Your child will build on their skills in speeches by doing oral reports, presentations & demonstrations. Forensics is also introduced in the fifth grade.

The study of space, the human body, energy & matter will be taught. They will learn about the populations of organisms in their habitat. They will also discuss a variety of communites.

The regions of the U.S. will be discovered in connection to the states and capitals. The geography study of landforms & map skills will further their understanding of the world around them.

In math your child will gain experience in mental computation and do basic fact time test. They will acquire the ability to perform all mathematical operations with fractions & decimals.

The fundamental computer skills are reviewed and expanded through a variety of activites.

The quality of the study of Jesus, Church, Sacraments, Prayer, Christian Life, Missions, Vocations, Eucharist & Liturgy will contribute to their success as a Christian. They will be introduced to human sexuality as a facet of our life. The fifth graders are involved in the weekly Liturgy preparations and services.

Physical Education, health and art classes will continue to progress their developmental skills. Your child will have the opportunity to be in band and participate in choir for the weekly liturgy. The fifth graders will be introduced to the Spanish language.

Extra curricular activities available include basketball, volleyball and softball.

Our fifth graders meet at St. John-Sacred Heart School in Sherwood.
