St. John-Sacred Heart Third Grade

In the St. John-Sacred Heart third grade program your child strengthens their phonic skills with the use of text & trade books.  The focus on writing skills & the mechanics of our language are taught in depth.  Your child will do creative writing and with weekly spelling tests they will increase their vocabulary.

The students will develop a strong foundation of the math language and concepts with the aid of manipulatives and child centered instructions.

The third graders will focus on exploring the world of plants & animals, forces & machines, sounds & light, and energy in their science class.  Through instructions they are encouraged to ask questions, investigate and experiment.  Technology is integrated and reinforced in extended lessons.

Your child will concentrate on community life, geography, maps, settlement, government, and business economics.  They will increase their knowledge on writing, listening, following directions and reasoning development.  Activites include individual project work, situational dramas and field trips that illustrate aspects of community life.

Computer instructions will focus on keyboarding skills and are integrated into various curriculum areas.

They will expand their knowledge in art, music & health areas, and will continue to develop their phyical education skills.

The students in the third grade partake in the annual Passion Play of Jesus and Christmas Musical Drama Production.

The third graders meet at the St. John-Sacred Heart School in Sherwood.
