St. John-Sacred Heart First Grade

In first grade at St. John-Sacred Heart your child will be involved in reading with a strong emphasis on phonic & word attack skills.  They will do group & individual story writings, as well as create a book of their very own.  The first graders will learn about the community and surrounding areas.  They will do activites relating to these topics and work on map skills with the aid of 3D maps and communities.

Your child will learn basic math facts through the use of games & activites to help them memorize the facts.  They will work on the concepts of telling time, counting money and measuring.  A daily activity calendar helps to reinforce these skills.

The first graders read daily from the Children's Bible and have discussions of the stories and ideas presented.  They will learn about God, His relationship with us & His basic expectations of us, i.e. to love on another.  Once a week they will actively participate in a mass.

The children will be involved with art projects, music appreciation, and health and physical education activities on a weekly basis.

Our first graders meet daily at St. John- Sacred Heart School in St. John.
