What is Scrip?

Scrip is fundraising while you shop by generating revenue through everyday household purchases like food, clothing and entertainment.  Each scrip gift card purchase earns a 1.5% to 15% or more rebates for SJSH School. 

What is the catch?

The catch – if there is one – is that families need to plan ahead a little and do their normal shopping with gift cards.  Simply stop using cash or credit to pay for your regular household purchases and instead use scrip gift cards.  Let the rebate rewards help you and SJSH School for free!

How can I get started?
When purchasing scrip for the first time, please fill out the entire top portion of the order form.  Any purchases made after that will only require you to fill in your name, phone number and designated school.

Where can I purchase scrip?

Scrip may be purchased at Head Insurance at W579 Castle Drive in Sherwood during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday) and on Saturday from 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. (after 5:45 p.m. Mass) at Sacred Heart, Sundays from 8:45 - 9:30 a.m. (after 8:00 a.m. Mass) at Sacred Heart Church and 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. (before 11:00 a.m. Mass) at St. John Church.

How does scrip reduce my tuition while helping SJSH School?

Any scrip purchase you make, the rebate you generate will be split between you and SJSH School.  For example, if you purchase $100.00 in scrip that offers a 5% rebate, you earned a total of $5 in which  $2.50 will be applied as a tuition credit and the other $2.50 benefits SJSH School.

Can only SJSH School families purchase scrip?

NO!  Anyone who wants to help a specific school family or SJSH School and Parish directly can purchase scrip.  Parishioners, school families, grandparents, alumni, friends, neighbors – ANYONE!  Any scrip purchase made without a specified school family for tuition credit will yield 100% rebate profit to SJSH School.

How soon can I start buying scrip for my child’s tuition credit?

Parents of young children can start accruing scrip credit for their child’s first year of SJSH tuition for K3, K4 or Kindergarten.  Simply fill out a form the first time you buy scrip indicating your oldest child’s birth date and let the tuition credits accumulate until you are ready to redeem.

How do I redeem my tuition credit?

The scrip calendar year runs from May 1 to April 30.  Credit will automatically be issued to your school tuition payment for the following school year.  If your child is too young for school you can redeem your credit as soon as your child is eligible to attend SJSH School.

Do you ever run out of scrip? What happens then?

We stock gift cards for over 50 local businesses that participate in the program, along with national companies in the Fox Valley area.  It is often hard to predict how much of any particular scrip will be needed week to week.  Occasionally, our scrip may temporarily run out of a particular certificate. Scrip is ordered every Sunday and received at Head Insurance on Wednesday of that same week.  If you know you will need a large scrip amount for a particular retailer, advanced notice would be most appreciated to reduce disappointment.

How many retailers participate in this program?

We are able to stock only a fraction of the thousands of retailers who participate in the program.  A complete list of participating retailers can be found online at Great Lakes Scrip Center  (www.glscrip.com)  We are happy to order scrip from any retailer noted on the Great Lakes Scrip website especially for you.  Scrip is ordered every Sunday and received at Head Insurance on Wednesday of that same week.  Any special order must be pre-paid.

Can I use scrip to pay department store charge account balances?

A few retailers allow you to pay charge account balances with scrip, but generally speaking, most do not.  Locally Kohl’s accepts scrip gift cards and American TV accepts special checks issued by our scrip coordinator.  Be sure to contact our scrip coordinator, Ann at 989-1300 for any American TV payment request.

Does buying scrip at 1.5% - 15% add up to anything significant?

YES!  Every rebate percentage counts for when combined it quickly becomes a significant amount. By simply planning ahead on everyday purchases like groceries, gas, restaurants, clothes, entertainment and home repair, the average family can earn at least $11 a week. That modest number adds up quickly.  It is not unusual  for families to generate over $500 a year.

How much revenue has been generated for SJSH School through the scrip program?

The following is total sales and the revenue generated from the scrip program for the past five years:

 $248,544.48 in total profit for SJSH School was earned in five years by simply shopping for everyday items.  What more could you ask for than free money?  SJSH scrip program is a powerful fundraiser, and your ONLY investment is the time it takes to buy scrip for items you already would be purchasing!
